FAQ

OSNT has decided on a form of health education on the subject of organ donation that touches us without frightening us. Our concept aims to sensitize people to the topic of organ donation and therefore emphasizes willingness to donate as a sign of charity.

What is it called schoolmasterly? Caution is better than… Well! Here, too, the  OSNT wants to  help. What do we actually know about these delicate blood sponges that are our kidneys? As high-performance organs, they have to keep up in everyday life. If they take damage, it doesn’t even hurt. In risk groups, primary prevention aims to prevent or at least delay the onset of kidney disease. But even an existing disease of the kidneys is a central but solvable problem. The contribution by  OSNT encourages you to take responsibility for your own health.

We are currently conducting several studies within our specialism. For example, research to:

  1. To improve the diagnosis and dialysis treatment of patients with kidney failure and concomitant heart problems.
  2. To improve the treatment of patients with cystic kidneys and to test a possible drug.
  3. To improve the diagnosis and treatment of electrolyte and/or acidity disorders in the blood.
  4. To find out why patients with kidney failure often also have a disturbed immune system and how that immune system can be improved.

Our kidney specialists care for patients with kidney diseases, such as:

  1. Cysts in the kidneys
  2. Congenital abnormalities of the urinary tract
  3. Nephrotic syndrome (damage to the glomeruli, which filter your blood)
  4. Chronic renal pelvic inflammation
  5. Damage to the kidneys from diabetes
  6. Kidney damage due to diseases of the immune system (your immune system)

If your kidneys no longer work properly – this is called kidney failure – we have treatments to remove the waste products from your blood. A well-known option is kidney replacement therapy. It has forms:

  1. Peritoneal dialysis (abdominal lavage). Dialysis fluid collects the waste products in your abdomen, after which the fluid leaves your abdomen.
  2. Hemodialysis. This will filter your blood through a machine.
  3. Kidney transplantation.

An active association of and for kidney patients Kidney disease not only has physical, but often also psychological and social consequences. Know that you are not alone. We offer support, information and meeting and stand up for your interests.

Nephrologists are physicians that trained in internal medicine, internists, and then pursued additional training in kidney disease. Nephrologists help take care of patients with weak or failed kidneys. They are the only physicians trained to provide dialysis for kidney failure. Nephrologists also are part of the kidney transplant team though they don’t operate.
